Frequently Asked Questions
-
Is it very expensive to waterproof metal roofs?
It really depends on the existing condition of the roof. Ideally you should appoint an Engineering Consultant, who has experience in retrofit projects. An old roof is nothing like a new roof. Do not fall for those "free surveys" offers. The consultant should be good enough to technically challenge the short-listed contractors.

Why Polyurea for sealing End-laps?
Polyurea, when applied at 2mm DFT on the end-laps, is an excellent sealant that can hold the movements of the joint. With a tensile strength of well above 2000psi, it is far superior than those 'nano' 'ceramic' coatings which have a tensile strength of 100psi. A 10-Year Warranty must be based on performance values.
-
Do Polyurea on end-laps have enough project references of more than five years?
Would you prefer using the old brick-phone over the latest smart-phone? Science, Technology and Innovation is driving a sustainable future.
-
Polyurea is expensive compared to Acrylic coatings. How does it effect the cost of waterproofing metal roofs?
Polyurea cost has been going down as the technology becomes more accessible. Depending on the size and conditions of the metal roof, Supply + Apply price of Waterproofing and Cool Roof Coating with Polyurea on the End-laps and Thermo-Shield Cool Roof Coat System starts at as low as AED32/- a square meter.
-
What's the ideal thickness of Lightweight Cementitious Acrylic Membrane?
LCA is best applied at a minimum Dry Film Thickness of 1.2mm to waterproof flat concrete surfaces. This is potable water certified system used in water tanks; if it is good for water tanks, it is great for concrete roofs as well.
-
What's the coverage of LCA per waterproofing kit?
At 1.2mm DFT, it is 10 sqm per kit. Make sure you don't allow the first coat to dry completely before you apply the subsequent coats. A good contractor/ applicator is always willing to take technical advise from the manufacturer.
-
If there is water ponding, what's the best solution?
The best solution will be to install a light-weight screed and then install the LCA plus PU Floor/Top Coat system. If you are trying to save money, avoid the screed. LCA + PU system can withstand ponding. That is definitely not the case with Acrylic coats (even if they have ceramic and glass bubbles).
-
How do you repair and seal Expansion Joints?
A self-leveling PU sealant is the best. How to make it work? If you follow the right methodology - expansion joints are the easiest to seal and waterproof.
